Girls Softball Coach
Part-Time

SUMMARY: THE GYM MAPLEWOOD, a premier sports training organization for developing young athletes through mentorship, instruction, and competitions is hiring a Girls Softball Coach. This is a contractor position responsible for private, semi-private, and group coaching/training of girl softball from 8 years old to 14 years old. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

• High school diploma required

• Previous softball instruction/coaching experience 

  • Extensive hitting knowledge

  • Ideally pitching specific teaching experience.

• Previous softball sport experience and knowledge

• Availability throughout weeknights and possible weekends

• Strong work ethic

• Excellent communication skills

• Positive, energetic attitude

• Customer-oriented

Duties and responsibilities

• Perform private and semi-private lessons

• Coach teams or groups as necessary

• Assist in facility cleanliness and maintenance

• Assist in facility set-up, including: programs, camps, clinics, team practices and lessons based on softball operations needs

• Assist in program development, team development and curriculum for practices for potential group/team lessons.

• Assist in business development of Sports Training offerings.

• Communicates rules, team policies, coaching/training information to  participants and parents. 

• Plans and implements effective practices with an emphasis on fundamentals and  having fun! 

• Enforces all facility policies with their players, parents and coaches.  Models good sportsmanship at all times and demands the same from everyone  associated with the team. 

• Ensures all possible safety measures are observed. Identifies and reports any  hazards or problems to the Gym Managing Director. Calls 911 in the event of  emergencies. Follows the guidelines for lightning safety as set forth by The Gym Management.

• Exhibits good customer service skills and sportsmanship when interacting with  other coaches, participants, parents, and staff.

• Communication with parents/players to schedule sessions and coordinate the calendar of training sessions.

Knowledge & Abilities: Coaches must have a good understanding of the game of fastpitch softball, but more importantly an ability to teach the fundamental skills necessary  to be successful at each appropriate age level. Mixing up practices and drills will keep  participants more interested in learning the game.
